The State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine is pleased to announce that last week the ORCID Board approved a two-year extension of the Ukrainian consortium’s free membership, now valid until 2027.

This decision continues the previous policy of free ORCID access for Ukraine, which was implemented following the onset of full-scale aggression. It takes into account the complex socio-economic situation in the country and supports Ukrainian researchers in ensuring the visibility of their scientific achievements on the international stage.

The Ukrainian ORCID National Consortium is a key tool for integrating research data and publications, providing researchers with unique identifiers and enhancing the transparency and accessibility of scientific information. In particular, it helps increase the visibility of research outputs in leading international databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and OpenAIRE, ensuring accurate attribution of authorship and collaborative work in international projects. Moreover, ORCID facilitates the automation of publication tracking and the creation of institutional research profiles, which is particularly important for monitoring productivity and evaluating the effectiveness of research projects.

The decision on the free membership extension will be revisited in 18 months and assessed according to the country’s situation. This ensures that Ukrainian researchers receive stable support in developing an open research infrastructure and integrating into global research networks in the coming years.

Support from ORCID during wartime holds strategic importance for Ukrainian science. In a context where many institutions face limited funding, infrastructure risks, and organizational challenges, free access to the platform allows researchers to maintain active scientific work. This support not only benefits individual researchers but also promotes the integration of Ukrainian research institutions into European and global collaborative programs, including major initiatives such as Horizon Europe, providing access to grants, international collaborations, and open scientific resources.
