Lviv National Medical University commenced its activities on November 16, 1784, marking the date of its establishment. By the privilege of Emperor Joseph II of Austria-Hungary, four faculties: Theology, Law, Philosophy, and Medicine were founded at Lviv University. In 1996, by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Lviv State Medical Institute was granted the status of a higher educational institution of the IV level of accreditation. In 1998, the Lviv State Medical University was named after Danylo Halytsky. In 2003, by a Presidential Decree of Ukraine, the University was conferred the status of a National Medical University.
Today, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University stands as a modern, multidisciplinary educational institution. The University comprises six faculties and 75 departments, including 49 clinical departments located at the University Hospital and 116 healthcare facilities. Among these are 10 healthcare institutions in the cities of Lutsk, Rivne, and Truskavets. The University also includes a medical college, a dental medical center, a central research laboratory, an industrial toxicology laboratory, an electron microscopy laboratory, and centers for international relations and European integration, healthcare innovations and digital medicine, molecular design, biostatistics, and simulation-based learning.
Additionally, it operates a training and production pharmacy, a library, six museums, a botanical garden, a vivarium, and a communication and promotion department. The University also hosts the Research Institute of Epidemiology and Hygiene, which encompasses scientific laboratories for studying natural focal and vector-borne infections, molecular-genetic research, vaccine-preventable and other bacterial infections, sanitary toxicology, immunological studies of tuberculosis, and infectious and parasitic diseases, along with a dedicated library.
To support the publication of academic and educational materials, the University maintains a printing house and an operational printing unit. It publishes eight scientific and practical journals:

• The Practicing Physician;
• Allergy in Children.
The University provides education under the following professional programs:
• Bachelor degree: “Physical Therapy”;
• Master’s degree: “Medicine,” “Pediatrics,” “Prosthetics and Orthotics,” “Pharmacy,” and “Healthcare Management”;
• Doctoral degree: Educational and scientific programs in “Medicine,” “Pediatrics,” “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy,” and “Pediatrics.”
The Faculty of Postgraduate Education offers training for medical and pharmaceutical interns in 23 specialties and provides courses in 121 specialties. The University also organizes continuous professional development activities, including scientific conferences, specialized seminars, and practical training workshops.
