The department of propaedeutics of internal diseases was organized in March 1945. From that time until 1965, its base was the first therapeutic department of the regional clinical hospital. Since March 1966, the department's clinical base has been the third city hospital of Chernivtsi.
The initial period of the department was characterized by short-term leadership by associate professors: M.I. Osnos (1945-1946), B.P. Aleksandrovskyi (1946-1947), Prof. M.Yu. Rappoport (1947-1949), B.I. Kranzfeld ( 1949-1953), O.O. Kolachov (1953-1957). Later, the department was headed by Assoc. P.T. Karavaev (1957-1965), Prof. O.I. Samson (1965-1968), Associate Professor I.K. Mohun (1968-1979), Prof. I.K. Vladkovskyi (1979-1990). From 1990 to 2008 the department was headed by the honored doctor of Ukraine, Prof. O.I. Voloshyn, from 2008 to 2011. the department was headed by Prof. Pishak O.V. Since November 2011 the department was headed by Doctor of Medicine. T.O. Ilashchuk.
Students of the 3rd and 6th years, interns, and clinical residents study at the department's clinical base. Employees of the department have the methods of ultrasonography, microprobe intragastric pH-metry, computer spirographs and 24-hour ECG and blood pressure monitoring with determination of heart rate variability, singlet oxygen therapy methods.
The scientific topics of the department in different periods of its existence and leadership were diverse: problems of rheumatic diseases and cardiovascular pathology (1945-1957, from 1994), hematology, endocrinology, pathology of digestive organs (1957-1990, from 1994). ), hypertensive disease (1980-1993), environmental aspects of pathogenesis and development of new treatment technologies based on apiphytotherapy and other natural remedies (since 1994). Since 2001, the staff of the department has been studying the issue of the use of natural remedies in the treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with concomitant damage to internal organs. Since 2005 scientific and research work on rheumatology topics is being carried out, in particular, optimization of the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis and gout. "Study of new aspects of the mechanism of the therapeutic action of medicinal plants (primrose, rhodiola pink, common viper, foxglove, Echinacea purple), flower pollen, erbisol, etonium, dodeconium and justification of new technologies for their use in the treatment of patients with primary and secondary gastroduodenitis , cholecystitis, osteoarthritis, chronic heart failure". Since 2003, work has been carried out on the topic: "Study of age-related and somatic features of the course of chronic non-specific lung diseases under the conditions of combined lesions of internal organs: development of new treatment technologies using domestically produced natural medicinal products." Since 2004 - "Chronobiological aspects of improving diagnosis and treatment of patients with osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis". Since 2010 the research work "Peculiarities of circadian oxidative disturbances, changes in vegetative tone in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, gout and diffuse liver lesions of non-viral origin, rationale for improvement of therapy" is being carried out.
Nature health and plant resources of Bukovyna and the Carpathians are actively researched. These are medicinal plants - health-improving properties of the microclimate of one of the largest karst caves in Europe "Cinderella", medicinal plants - mountain arnica, pink rhodiola, large celandine, erect foxglove, tall hellebore, knotweed, noble laurel, and beekeeping products - bee pollen. According to the idea of the staff of the department, a biologically active supplement "Apitonik" was created in Ukraine (Kryvyi Rih, PE "Plazis EM"), which is currently the object of detailed study in optimizing the treatment of patients with tuberculosis, respiratory diseases and diabetes (TB Tuberculosis Research Institute , Kyiv, BSMU, sanatoriums in Kryvyi Rih).
