Corresponding changes are contained in the draft law 'On the system of priority areas of scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activity in Ukraine', submitted for public discussion.

In particular, it is planned that the government will approve a single list instead of the current lists of priority directions for the development of science and technology and innovative activities, which are currently too dispersed and significantly duplicated.

Also, within the single list, two groups of priority directions will be distinguished: 'Advanced science' (aimed at the development of world-class fundamental scientific research) and 'Overcoming national challenges' (aimed at the development of the entire chain from fundamental research to scientific and technical (experimental) developments in the fields, which are important for ensuring national security and defense, economic recovery and post-war sustainable development of the country).

In addition, for the first time in the 30 years of the priorities' existence, a new direction of national security and defense and a direction of a creative and inclusive society, which is aimed at ensuring the development of the country's humanitarian sphere, have been added to them.
