The State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine continues to coordinate the National ORCID Consortium of Ukraine, bringing together Ukrainian research institutions and higher education establishments to integrate with the global ORCID system. As part of this work, we have conducted a detailed review of the new strategic document ORCID 2030: Advancing the Future of Research, which outlines the platform’s priorities for the next four years.

The document marks a significant stage in ORCID’s evolution, transitioning from a reliable and neutral researcher identifier to an active infrastructure hub that collects and verifies data on research contributions, ensuring transparency and trust in the global research ecosystem. ORCID’s core values—openness, trust, and inclusivity—remain foundational to all strategic initiatives and guide its engagement with countries and communities worldwide.

The strategy highlights five key areas of development. The first, Empowering Researchers, focuses on increasing researchers’ visibility and reputation, automating data collection while keeping control in the hands of the researcher, and expanding ORCID’s relevance beyond STEM disciplines. The second, Connecting Research Information, emphasizes ORCID’s role as a global hub of trusted data and as an integrator between universities, funding organizations, publishers, and other systems. The third, Broadening Our Community, targets engagement in regions with lower participation, outreach to new user groups, and reducing barriers to integration and platform use. The fourth, Advancing Trust and Integrity, addresses challenges related to misinformation, the development of digital identity, and supporting transparency in research. Finally, the fifth, Strengthening ORCID’s Resiliency, focuses on financial, technical, and organizational stability, the secure application of new technologies, and the development of ORCID’s staff.

For Ukraine, the ORCID 2030 strategy holds particular importance. It enables Ukrainian researchers to integrate into the international research community, increase the visibility of their publications, participate in global projects, and transparently demonstrate their contributions to science. For Ukrainian institutions, ORCID provides tools for efficient research data management, integration with national systems, and adherence to high standards of research integrity. The strategy also supports the development of an inclusive digital research ecosystem, which is especially significant for regions with limited resources.

The SSTL of Ukraine continues to coordinate the National Consortium, providing methodological and technical support to its members and promoting the implementation of key ORCID 2030 principles within Ukraine’s research infrastructure. We are confident that this will contribute to the advancement of digital research in Ukraine and strengthen its integration into the global scientific ecosystem.
