Danish physicists have recorded a Christmas carol on a record-small record — its diameter is only 40 micrometers. With the help of 3D nanolithography, scientists carved a fragment of the song 'Rocking Around the Christmas Tree' on it. The Danish University of Technology tells about the New Year's experiments of scientists on its website.
The plate was made using the Nanofrazor three-dimensional lithography system, which creates nano- and microstructures with the help of a laser that removes part of the material from the substrate by sublimation. The distance between the recording grooves was only 450 nanometers. It managed to fit 25 seconds of Brenda Lee's song in stereo mode. Of course, you will not be able to listen to the record - even to see the soundtrack applied to it, you will have to use an atomic force microscope.
And last New Year's holidays, the same scientists showed the world's thinnest Christmas tree, which was cut from graphene, a material one atom thick. The height of the decoration was 14 centimeters.
