Alla Zharinova, the Acting Director of the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine (SSTL), has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of ORCID starting from January 2024. This decision was made by the company following the electoral process that took place in the fall of this year.

A total of 7 new members were elected to the ORCID Board of Directors (you can view the full list here). They will all serve for a period of 3 years, providing strategic leadership and oversight to ensure the successful achievement of the organization's mission.

It is worth noting that elections to the ORCID Board of Directors take place annually, ensuring a phased rotation of its composition (approximately one-third).

This year, the Nominating Committee received 21 nominations, recommending 7 candidates for election. Their list was reviewed by the current Board of Directors and submitted to a vote directly by ORCID members.

Out of 1,339 members eligible to participate in the elections, 385 (29%) cast their votes, exceeding the threshold required to validate the elections (10%). 368 participants (96%) voted in favor of the list of candidates.

Background: ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a global non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors representing a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

ORCID aims to provide transparent and reliable connections between researchers, their scholarly contributions, and affiliations. The persistent identifier ORCID allows for easy management of individual user profiles, bringing together all key information about the researcher, their research interests, and publication activity in one place. ORCID is compatible with numerous scientific information systems of various institutions and allows customization to support other identification systems.

Last year, ORCID provided Ukraine with a unique opportunity to create a National Consortium for free. Currently, it has 46 participating institutions, with the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine being the consortium leader.
