Ukrainian scientist Kateryna Pozharska has been awarded the prestigious international mathematics prize, the "Joseph F. Traub Information-Based Complexity Young Researcher Award 2023," for her significant contributions to the theory of information complexity.
This award is given annually to just one young mathematician under the age of 35 worldwide.
Kateryna is a graduate of Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University and a researcher at the Department of Function Theory at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Currently, she is also a postdoctoral researcher in Chemnitz, Germany, as a Humboldt Foundation fellow. The research team she works with focuses on modern approximation theory problems and the development of algorithms to reduce information complexity, which finds applications in machine learning.
