Description

Kharkiv Chemical Seminar
On February 22, 2024, at 16:00 Kyiv time, there will be an online meeting of the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, initiated by the Scientific and Research Department of Chemistry of Functional Materials of the Scientific and Technological Complex "Institute of Single Crystals" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Lecturer: Twan Lammers (Prof. Twan Lammers), professor at the Center for Biohybrid Medical Systems of the University Clinic of Aachen University (Germany). He received the degree of Doctor of Sciences in radiation oncology at the University of Heidelberg, and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Utrecht.

His lab works to personalize and improve disease treatments by combining drug targeting with imaging. Here, nanosystems for drug delivery are being developed, as well as materials and methods for monitoring tumor growth, angiogenesis, inflammation, fibrosis and metastasis.
Twan Lamers has numerous grants and awards and is listed as a highly cited researcher by Clarivate Analytics.

Topic of the report: Cancer nanomedicine. "Cancer Nanomedicine". Modern medicine widely uses nanomaterials for the treatment and diagnosis of cancer. Drug transport nanosystems provide more efficient and selective delivery of drug molecules to pathological areas. As a result, the accumulation of dangerous drugs in healthy organs and tissues is significantly reduced. Nanopharmaceuticals, such as liposomes, polymers, and micelles, help improve the balance between the efficacy and toxicity of chemotherapy drugs. Nanomedicine is also increasingly being used for in vivo therapeutic applications based on nucleic acids .

To advance the clinical application of nanomedicine against cancer, Professor Lammers' group is working on systems and strategies for monitoring and modulating drug delivery. This lecture will highlight some of these strategies, including, in addition to new chemical and pharmaceutical developments, imaging-guided procedures for primary treatment of the blood vessels and tumor microenvironment, and the use of imaging and tissue biomarkers for patient stratification. Together, these efforts contribute to increasing the clinical effect of cancer treatment with the help of nanomedicine.

The language of the seminar is English. Participation is free. Scientists, post-graduate students, students, teachers and all interested parties are invited. Lectures are held in communication mode.

Briefly about the event:
Scientists of the Research Department of Chemistry of Functional Materials of the National Technical Research Center "Institute of Single Crystals" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine initiated and made available to a wide range of scientists the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar (Kharkiv Chemical Seminar), at which reports and lectures are given by leading chemical scientists of the world. In particular, the two-day course of lectures was given by Nobel Laureates Jean-Marie Len and Jean-Pierre Sauvage, as well as leading professors from France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands and other countries. During the Kharkiv Chemistry Seminar, more than 30 lectures were held, in which more than 9,000 participants took part (directly at the meetings and via the YouTube channel).

More details are available on the Institute's website According to the information of the NTC "Institute of Single Crystals" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine The materials were published by the Press Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
