Uman National University of Horticulture is a multidisciplinary higher education institution, a modern research and education centre. Its activities are based on the harmonious combination of centuries-old traditions with the latest technologies and a creative approach to teaching. The university has the unique historical experimental base, which includes collection botanical nurseries, a greenhouse complex and а training and research production department. The educational and research production department includes experimental fields and orchards, nurseries, berry gardens, vineyards, a forest, the fruit and vegetable storage facility, and the fruit, vegetable and grain processing workshops.
The University trains specialists at the following educational and qualification levels: Junior bachelor, Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of philosophy. It consists of seven vocational colleges in Cherkasy and Odesa regions and six departments. These departments are agronomy, fruit and vegetable growing, ecology and plant protection, economics and entrepreneurship, management, engineering and technology, forestry and landscape gardening.
Academic staff is trained through doctoral studies in 7 specialities and postgraduate studies in 18 specialities. There are two doctoral specialised scientific councils in four specialties. Scientific research is conducted on topics representing a wide range of agronomic, natural and economic issues of modern agricultural production.
There are 12 scientific schools, 23 educational and scientific laboratories, a council of young scientists and scientific society of students successfully functioning at the university. The professional ‘Collection of scientific works of Uman NUH’, ‘Bulletin of Uman NUH’, collections of scientific works of young scientists, student scientific works, conference materials are published. The scientific herbarium of the University is registered in Index Herbariorum (New York) with the identifier (acronym) - UM.
The university has introduced dual and distance education systems. The establishment has internal and international academic mobility programmes. It provides practical training at the best domestic enterprises and foreign farms, as well as participation in research programmes and grants.
