Institute of Food Biotechnology and Genomics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

The Institute is the leading research center in Ukraine in the fields of plant cell and molecular biology, genomics and bioinformatics, molecular plant biotechnology and biosafety.

The primary tasks of the IFBG of the NAS of Ukraine shall be:

1. To organise and conduct scientific research in the following primary areas of scientific activities:

– study of mechanisms of molecular and cellular biological vital activities of pro- and eukaryotic cells based on the development of Molecular genetics, structural and functional genomics and structural bioinformatics;

– development of new molecular biotechnologies and nanobiotechnologies of plants and prokaryotic systems;

– development of scientific principles of resource-saving technologies for processing agricultural raw materials, obtaining new types of foods and getting biofuels from biomass;

– development of biotechnological principles of food production, their components and biologically active ingredients, molecular-genetic and biochemical methods of phytosanitary, medical-biological control of food raw materials, food additives, food and feed and scientific principles of biosafety.

2. To conduct fundamental and applied scientific research in the relevant areas of general and molecular genetics, genomics, cell biology, biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, synthetic biology and biosafety in order to obtain new scientific knowledge and facilitate its practical application.

3. To translate scientific knowledge acquired through research or practical experience into practical applications by undertaking scientific and applied research activities.

4. To provide scientific and research services.

5. To conduct scientific and research expert assessments.

6. To train highly qualified research personnel through master's, post-graduate, and doctorate studies.
