Biography

Oksana Mykolaivna Liashenko, Doctor of Economics, Professor, and Professor at the Department of Economics and Trade at Lesia Ukrainka Volyn National University, is a leading Ukrainian scholar in behavioural economics, sustainable development, energy policy, and socio-economic modelling. She has 32 years of academic and research experience, combining expertise in fundamental and applied studies, research management, international cooperation, and the supervision of early-career researchers.

Professor Liashenko earned her Doctor of Economic Sciences degree (2010) in “Mathematical Modelling and Information Technologies in Economics” at the Institute for Economic Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, following the defence of her PhD thesis in 2001 in economic-mathematical modelling.

Her academic output includes over 250 scholarly publications, including papers indexed in Scopus and Web of Science in leading journals such as Energies, Sustainability, Sustainable Development, Economics Research and Innovative Journal, among others. Her research advances behavioural-experimental and system-based modelling of sustainable development, as well as system-dynamic analysis of energy and socio-economic processes using advanced statistical modelling techniques.

Between 2020 and 2025, her scientific contributions form a coherent research trajectory focused on the relationship between social preferences, governance quality, energy transitions, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her works in Sustainability, Energies, Economics, European Journal of Sustainable Development and other Q1–Q2 Scopus journals explore behavioural and social determinants of sustainable development, particularly the role of trust, fairness, and social orientations in shaping public support for reforms and the effectiveness of energy transitions. A distinct area of her research investigates critical tipping points in socio-economic systems, defining threshold levels of trust and policy perception that determine system stability or deviation from development trajectories. She places particular emphasis on integrating methods of system dynamics, multivariate statistical analysis (MARS, SEM, ARDL), risk-based behavioural economics, and modelling interdependencies among the SDGs.

In her recent studies, she has developed a behavioural-experimental model of sustainable development that reflects cognitive constraints, institutional environments, and societal perceptions of energy policies—laying a conceptual foundation for the present project.

Throughout her career, Professor Liashenko has led and participated in multiple state-funded research projects conducted at the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, Ternopil National Economic University, and Lutsk National Technical University, addressing macroeconomic stability, intellectual capital development, and the evolution of the information economy. These projects provided an analytical and methodological basis for her current international research on sustainable development, economic resilience, and system modelling.

She has extensive experience in international research and academic programmes in sustainability, energy policy, academic integrity, and open science. In 2023–2025, she served as a research fellow at the University of Seville (Spain) within projects funded by Junta de Andalucía (PAIDI 2020, P20-00628) and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (PID2021-124981NB-I00), and is a member of the SEJ258 “Research in Applied Economics” group. From May 2023 to April 2025, she was a research fellow under the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA4Ukraine, ID 1232972) programme, implemented by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, working on issues of social welfare preferences, trust, and sustainable development. In 2023–2025, she was also a Visiting Researcher of the British Academy at Loughborough University (UK).

From 2020 to 2024, she participated in Erasmus+ projects, including OPTIMA (618940-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) on open science and academic transparency, and Academic IQ (Academic Integrity and Quality Initiative), supported by American Councils for International Education. She previously collaborated in Tempus, DAAD, and Erasmus+ programmes. She completed research fellowships at TU Dresden (Germany), Aarhus University (Denmark), Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), University of Rzeszów (Poland), and Kuyavian-Pomeranian University in Bydgoszcz (Poland).

This experience has strengthened her integration into the European research space and enhanced her competence in evidence-based policy, energy transitions, and the systemic modelling of sustainability processes—forming a solid foundation for the proposed project.

Professor Liashenko is proficient in modern tools of quantitative and system-dynamic analysis (Stata 18, R, TIBCO Statistica 13.2, Vensim, AnyLogic) and holds lifetime licenses obtained through the MSCA4Ukraine programme. She has significant experience working with major international datasets (ESS, EVS, CRONOS-2, WVS, OECD, World Bank, UN SDG Indicators) and conducting behavioural experiments using Qualtrics and oTree.

Her combined expertise in behavioural economics, sustainable development, mathematical modelling, and evidence-based policymaking ensures her high scientific capacity. Her international reputation, leadership experience, and profound competence in integrated sustainability analytics guarantee the scientific value and innovative potential of her research.
