Today, the world celebrates the World Science Day for Peace and Development, established by UNESCO in 2001. In times of global challenges, science becomes not just a tool for knowledge, but a key to survival and sustainable progress, helping humanity find solutions to its most pressing problems — from climate change and pandemics to energy security and food crises.

For Ukraine, which continues to resist Russian aggression, science has gained particular importance. Ukrainian researchers persist in their work despite the war, making valuable contributions to global scientific progress and strengthening the country’s resilience and defense capacity.

The State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine (SSTL) plays a crucial role in developing the national research ecosystem by providing access to scientific information through:

  • the national electronic system URIS (NAUKA),
  • the analytical platform OUCI,
  • the activities of the Open Science Centre,
  • and participation in international consortia such as EIFL, Research4Life, ORCID, Web of Science, Scopus, and Bentham Science (learn more).

The World Science Day reminds us that scientific discovery requires infrastructure, access to information, collaboration, and open knowledge exchange. These are the very principles that underpin the projects and initiatives of the SSTL of Ukraine.

Today, we extend our sincere greetings to all Ukrainian scientists who continue their work with resilience and dedication despite the challenges of war. Your commitment to science is an investment in the future of an independent, strong, and prosperous Ukraine.

Join us at the library or online — together, we make science more open and accessible for everyone!
