In 2026–2027, the 31st Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition at the Akademik Vernadsky Research Station will be led by meteorologist Anzhelika Hanchuk.

Anzhelika Hanchuk has direct experience working in Antarctica. In 2022–2023, she participated in the 27th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition as a meteorologist. During the expedition, she conducted meteorological, oceanographic, glaciological, aerological, and other scientific research. Her total professional experience in meteorology and climatology amounts to 10 years. In Ukraine, she initially worked as a weather forecaster and later headed a sector of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Currently, Anzhelika Hanchuk is engaged in operational forecasting and numerical modeling of hazardous hydrometeorological phenomena to support emergency response efforts. This work requires operating under high workload and time constraints, which is essential for effective leadership of an Antarctic expedition.

Another important area of her professional activity is international cooperation, including participation in the EUMETSAT and Baltic+ programs, as well as the implementation of modern numerical weather prediction models and the integration of satellite data into the daily operational practice of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

At present, the formation of the main team of the 31st Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition is ongoing. Once the team is approved, its composition will be announced separately.
