On 16 October 2026, the President of Ukraine Foundation for Education, Science and Sports launched a call for applications to fund academic visits by international professors and researchers to Ukraine. Ukrainian higher education institutions and research institutions can receive up to UAH 300,000 per visit.
The initiative aims to bring international experts to Ukrainian institutions to contribute to teaching, consultation and research, support the development of educational programmes, and establish long-term academic partnerships.
“For the Ministry of Education and Science, it is important that international expertise is brought directly into Ukrainian higher education and research institutions. An invited professor can help a team update a course, launch joint research or prepare an international grant application. Such visits should become the starting point for long-term cooperation that expands opportunities for students and researchers in Ukraine,” said Mykola Trofymenko, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
“By supporting these visits, we help Ukrainian institutions develop their own educational programmes and provide young people with more opportunities to study in Ukraine,” emphasised Olha Budnyk, Adviser and Commissioner to the President of Ukraine on matters relating to the President of Ukraine Foundation for Education, Science and Sports.
Applications are accepted from Ukrainian higher education institutions of all ownership types that hold a licence to conduct educational activities, as well as Ukrainian research institutions. The head of the institution submits the application on its behalf. One application per funding lot is permitted.
The invited expert must meet at least one of the following requirements:
The expert must visit the Ukrainian host institution in person. The programme may also include remote collaboration.
Researchers who have conducted or are conducting activities in the Russian Federation, Belarus or the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine since 2014 are not eligible to be invited.
“The pilot UK–UA Visiting Professors Programme has demonstrated that international academic cooperation can go far beyond guest lectures, fostering joint research, developing early-career researchers, strengthening university teams and giving Ukrainian students access to world-class expertise without having to leave the country. We want the new programme to expand the range of participating universities and disciplines, deepen long-term partnerships and turn international knowledge exchange into tangible outcomes for Ukrainian education, science and the country's recovery,” said Yurii Petrushenko, Director of the President of Ukraine Foundation for Education, Science and Sports.
The proposed activities must align with the Foundation's strategic priorities. These include STEM, healthcare, biotechnology, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, energy and recovery, agricultural technologies, high-tech industry, economics and entrepreneurship, and the humanities and social sciences.
Funding may cover the expert's fee, insurance, travel, accommodation, work permits and other eligible expenses associated with educational or research activities. If the total cost exceeds UAH 300,000, the host institution must cover the difference through co-funding. The availability of co-funding gives an application an advantage during the selection process.
Applications must be submitted electronically in Ukrainian. Applicants must provide information about the expert's professional experience, the proposed programme of work, expected outcomes and a detailed budget.
An expert committee reviews applications on a rolling basis as they are received. Recommended applications are funded in order of receipt until the budget allocated to the relevant funding lot is exhausted.
