The National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority are joining forces to expand environmental monitoring of the Black Sea. A memorandum of cooperation was signed by the two parties on 30 October 2026, ahead of International Black Sea Day.

The cooperation will make it possible, for the first time since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, to conduct regular environmental monitoring along the coastline stretching from the Dnipro-Buh Estuary to the Danube Delta. Russia’s aggression has severely restricted access to the sea and opportunities for collecting samples, while the need for up-to-date data on the state of the marine environment continues to grow.
