Ukrainian universities, research organisations, non-governmental organisations and businesses continue to expand their participation in Horizon Europe, the European Union's flagship research and innovation programme. During the first half of 2026 alone, Ukrainian organisations secured more than €11.59 million in EU grant funding. This is almost three times the amount obtained during the whole of 2025, when Ukrainian participants attracted €4.55 million.
The number of Ukrainian organisations participating in Horizon Europe has increased by a further 34 institutions, reaching a record total of 275 organisations. Together, these new participants secured approximately €3.47 million in EU grant funding. This amount is included in the total funding awarded to Ukrainian organisations in 2026, which now exceeds €11.59 million.
These achievements reflect the strong commitment of Ukrainian researchers, universities, research organisations, businesses and civil society, as well as the systematic support provided for international research cooperation. A significant contribution has been made by the network of National Contact Points established and funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine hosted by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, and the comprehensive national support system for preparing and submitting Horizon Europe proposals. Through advisory and organisational assistance, Ukrainian applicants have been able to develop more competitive proposals and successfully join international consortia.
According to data from the Horizon Dashboard and the latest information provided by Ukrainian universities, Ukrainian organisations recorded 79 successful participations in 54 Horizon Europe projects during 2026 alone. This represents an increase of 75.6% compared to the previous year, when Ukrainian organisations achieved 45 participations in 30 projects. In total, 62 Ukrainian organisations, including 34 first-time participants, signed grant agreements for new Horizon Europe projects in 2026.
