May 21, 2026
The webinar will take place within the framework of the Open Government Week and the Day of Science in Ukraine.
Time: 14:00–16:30 (Kyiv, UTC+2)
Format: Online webinar (Zoom + YouTube Live)
Language: Ukrainian

Speakers:
Iryna Kuchma (EIFL), Tetiana Yaroshenko (State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine), Iryna Tykhonkova (Clarivate), Vadym Tulchynskyi (Institute of Cybernetics of the NAS of Ukraine), Olha Olshevska (Odesa National Technological University).
The webinar is dedicated to current issues related to the transition of Ukrainian science toward the principles of openness: from ensuring open access to research results to implementing new approaches to the evaluation of research institutions and developing effective systems for monitoring scientific activity.
In the context of European integration and the implementation of the EU–Ukraine Association Agreement, Ukraine has committed itself to joining the European Research Area (ERA). Open Science is one of the key priorities of the ERA. At the same time, the practical implementation of these principles — including repositories for publications and research data, open access and open science principles, research ethics, research data management, and related practices — remains uneven. Parallel discussions are ongoing regarding the reform of institutional evaluation methodologies: from bibliometric approaches to frameworks based on the principles of responsible research assessment (DORA, CoARA).
During the webinar, the following topics will be discussed:
Iryna Kuchma has been the Open Access Programme Manager at EIFL (EIFL-OA) since 2008. Working in cooperation with libraries and library consortia in more than 50 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe, she advocates for open access to research results, promotes the development and implementation of open science policies and infrastructures, and provides support and training. She serves on the boards of the Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), the Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS), and the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD). She is also a member of the Open Access Week Advisory Committee, co-chair of the OpenAIRE Training and Support Standing Committee, a member of the DSpace Community Advisory Team, and the CODATA Policy and Legal Working Group. She served on UNESCO’s Open Science Advisory Committee as an international expert, participated in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Skills and Training Working Group, and contributed to the EOSC Association Task Force on curricula and career paths. Ms. Kuchma participated in the development of Ukraine’s National Open Science Plan and the Ministry of Education and Science recommendations on research data management.
Iryna Tykhonkova, PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology), worked at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. For 15 years, she served as editor-in-chief of the journal Biopolymers and Cell and taught at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Over the past 10 years, she has applied her experience while working at Clarivate as a Customer Success Consultant for Eastern Europe, Ukraine, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.
