The CORE team has introduced a new Open Access Compliance (REF2029) feature in the CORE Dashboard, designed to help institutional repository administrators monitor whether research publications comply with open access requirements.

The new tool tracks the time between the deposit of a research article in an institutional repository and its official publication. This enables institutions to assess whether their publications meet the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2029 open access policy requirements in the United Kingdom.

To help users better understand the new functionality, the CORE team has published a blog post titled "Understanding the CORE Dashboard: Checking Open Access Compliance for REF2029", which explains how the feature works and how it can support repository management.

Repository administrators are also invited to join an online Questions & Answers session on 29 July 2026 at 11:00 BST (13:00 Kyiv time). During the 30-minute session, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the CORE team, learn how other institutions are using the REF2029 tool, and discuss practical aspects of monitoring open access compliance.

Users who are unable to attend the session are encouraged to submit their comments and suggestions through the Feedback button in the CORE Dashboard. Feedback submitted through the platform is sent directly to the CORE development team.

The upcoming editions of the CORE Dashboard educational series will introduce two additional tools:

• RIOXX Metadata Validator – a tool for validating repository metadata against the RIOXX metadata standard.
• Desirable Characteristics Report – a report that helps institutions assess the quality and completeness of repository metadata and records.
