Up to $10,000 for research: Women Led Science program launches for women scientists

INSCIENCE, together with the Tokarev Foundation, and with the participation of STEM is FEM and UN Women in Ukraine, has opened applications for the Women Led Science grant program—an initiative aimed at funding and supporting Ukrainian women scientists and women-led research teams working in STEM fields.

The program is designed to help researchers implement their projects in Ukraine, reduce financial barriers, and increase the visibility of women in science.

Within the competition, 1 to 3 research teams will be selected to receive $10,000 each to carry out their projects, along with mentoring, educational, and communication support.

Who can apply?

Women-led research teams are invited to apply if they:

  • are headed by a woman scientist with at least 5 years of research experience;
  • include early-career researchers (1–5 years of experience);
  • consist of 2–5 members;
  • have at least 50% women in the team;
  • conduct their research in Ukraine.

The program is open to teams working in the following areas: natural sciences, engineering and technology, medicine and health sciences, agricultural sciences and biotechnology, artificial intelligence and computer science, ecology and climate science.

What will selected teams receive?

  • $10,000 in research funding;
  • an educational module (fundraising, publishing, intellectual property);
  • mentoring support;
  • communication support and public visibility;
  • the opportunity to participate in INSCIENCE Conference 2026—the largest popular science event in Ukraine.

Applications will be evaluated by an independent expert panel comprising representatives of academia, research institutions, the R&D sector, and the program organizers.

Why is this important?

Women in Ukraine make a significant contribution to the development of science, yet often face a lack of funding, resources, and visibility. At the same time, STEM research is critically important today for the country’s recovery, as well as for the advancement of technology, medicine, and environmental security.

The Women Led Science program aims to support women scientists who continue their work in Ukraine and to create conditions for the development of strong research teams.

How to apply?

To participate, applicants need to form a women-led team, prepare a project description, budget, and work plan, and submit an application via the online form. The application deadline is May 5.
