Competitions for the President of Ukraine’s Scholarships for Young Scientists and the NAS of Ukraine Scholarships for Young Scientists Have Been Announced

Applications from candidates will be accepted until September 20, 2026.

President of Ukraine’s Scholarships for Young Scientists

The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis for a period of two years. Young scientists employed by research institutes and other scientific institutions, organizations, and enterprises of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS of Ukraine) may participate in the competition.

Candidates must meet the definition of a “young scientist” set out in the Law of Ukraine “On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activities.” At the time the scholarship is awarded, a young scientist with higher education at least at the second (master’s) level must be no older than 35 years, inclusive, while a scientist holding a Doctor of Sciences degree must be no older than 40 years, inclusive. Upon reaching the age of 36 or 41, respectively, payment of the scholarship is terminated.

The President of Ukraine’s Scholarships may not be awarded to persons who, as of November 2026, have been awarded the scholarships named after Academician of the NAS of Ukraine B.Ye. Paton for Candidates of Sciences (Doctors of Philosophy) and Doctors of Sciences for 2026, or the NAS of Ukraine Scholarships for Young Scientists.

Candidates are nominated by the academic (scientific and technical) councils of NAS of Ukraine organizations at their primary place of employment or study. The decision is adopted by open or secret ballot, provided that at least two-thirds of the council members are present, and is considered adopted if more than half of those present vote in favor.

To participate in the competition, candidates must submit:

  • an extract from the minutes of the meeting of the council of the NAS of Ukraine organization regarding the nomination of the candidate, certified by the head of the organization;
  • written recommendations from at least two Doctors of Sciences who are personally familiar with the candidate’s scientific achievements and abilities;
  • information about the candidate, certified by the human resources department at the place of employment or study, including the date of birth, place of employment or study, position, academic degree, academic title, and contact details, as well as consent to the processing of personal data;
  • a list of scientific publications from the last five years, signed by the author and certified by the academic secretary of the NAS of Ukraine organization;
  • copies of the most important scientific works—no more than three—published during the candidate’s scientific career; for monographs, an abstract of up to two pages;
  • information about the candidate’s research activities, including participation in conferences, receipt of grants, research fellowships, and other activities, signed by the author and certified by the academic secretary of the NAS of Ukraine organization.

NAS of Ukraine Scholarships for Young Scientists

The NAS of Ukraine Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis for a period of up to two years starting in November 2026. Young scientists employed by research institutions, organizations, and enterprises of the NAS of Ukraine may participate in the competition.

The age requirements are the same: at the time the scholarship is awarded, candidates with higher education at least at the master’s level must be no older than 35 years, inclusive, while Doctors of Sciences must be no older than 40 years, inclusive.
